| From a letter to the Cincinnati Historical Society
dated May 15, 1931 by George H. D. Gibson. He is writing of his relatives
and tells this story in reference to Amos Goodwin of Sinking Fork, Silver
Creek, IN:
He had enlisted in 1811 with General William Harrison on his campaign... "He had not intended to enlist and go on the campaign, but someone else who was going found out at the last day that he could not go and Amos then agreed to go in his place. He found he did not have a suitable coat and in the evening many of the women of the community caught a black sheep, sheared it, carded the wool, spun the yarn, and wove the cloth inside of 24 hours and made his coat ready for him to go, and he did." -submitted by P. Cole from research
